Who are we? - VX Flight Network
About - General
The VX Flight Network is an online ROBLOX flight simulation network, utilizing PTFS to bring users a beginner friendly realistic ATC-Pilot roleplay, that still has semi-high standards. VX is a way for new people to the hobby to expand their knowledge in aviation as a whole, whether they are an air traffic controller or not.
VX is a brand new server aiming to complete what the other networks that came before us never did. And that was to provide a 100% successful network, that is beginner-friendly, but still has high standards for pilots and controllers alike. By simulating real-world FAA procedures for our air traffic controllers, providing training for both pilots (soon) and ATCs, VX is able to provide people a realistic experience, similar to what they would obtain on networks such as VATSIM.
VX is heavily inspired by VATSIM and other online flying networks. VX has adopted the same ARTCC structure that is currently used in VATUSA, and has used inspiration from VATSIM to bring realism to the server. A common misconception with VX is that we are a direct copy, and that was never our intention. We are not "VATSIM in ROBLOX". We are a place for new people to grow their knowledge in the passion of aviation, and promote education and a welcoming community for all.
How did VX start?
In 2021, a PTFS server was created called "Pilot Hangout", and as soon as a VATSIM controller took over the role as owner, a private server was created inside of the Pilot Hangout, and the server grew into what is now called "VATPTFS".
VATPTFS grew to a fairly large server, hosting around 130 members. The server had rebranded to "V1: A PTFS Realism Group", and ownership was changed. The server died, and V1 was left in the dust.
In June of 2022, VATPTFS was rebirthed by the original owners. VATPTFS grew larger than ever before, partnering with servers such as MJ's Charts PTFS, and growing to over 450 members. This server also was the first edition of VATPTFS to see fully successful ARTCCs. However, problems occurred, allegations ensued, and ownership of the server had to be transferred over at the beginning of 2023.
As of January 1st, 2024, VX has been everything that these servers weren't. The server is a fully clear, fully built, and fully staffed place where people can expand their knowledge in aviation. The server features three fully run ARTCCs, an entire staff team of experienced controllers from previous networks and VATSIM, and real world pilots to ensure a level of realism is set inside of the server.
Third time is the charm, right?
What does "VX" mean?
The term "Vx" in aviation is commonly known as, in pilotage, the speed at which the aircraft is at it's best angle of climb. We chose the name "VX" because just like in piloting an aircraft, the term "VX" in our server represents the best way to grow expand your knowledge as a beginner in aviation, similar to VX in an aircraft being the best angle of climb. Kind of hard to explain, but do you see where we went?
Structure of VX
As stated before, VX has adopted a similar staff structure as to what is used in larger networks such as VATSIM, and their VATUSA division. These networks and divisions helped inspire our server to what it is now. We've already discussed that, and we'll discuss the ARTCC structure later.
The VX server is divided into three main divisions: The Staff Division, The Pilot Division, and the ATC Division. Each division has their own respective director and owner, and is managed by certain people under that role.
The VX Senior Staff is divided into a team of 8 people. Each with their own respective roll. Those being:
VX1: Owner of VX/Staff Division Director
Owns and manages the VX Flight Network, and manages the VX Staff Division
VX2: ATC Division Director
Manages the Air Traffic Control Division, and oversees all three ARTCCs and their operations.
VX3: National Airspace System Director (NAS)
Creates charts, SIDs, STARs, TRACON RVMs, airspaces, and more. Oversees all flight operations within the server.
VX4: Director of Training Services
Basically a server-wide training administrator. Approves all training orders in ARTCCs, and oversees all training operations, including pilot training, within the VX Flight Network.
VX5: Director of Support Services
Director of all services intended to assist others on the VX network including support tickets, QNAs, town halls, etc.
VX6: Head of Events Team
Oversees all events on the VX Flight Network, approves events proposed by the ARTCC Event Coordinators, and coordinates with ARTCCs to create events.
VX7: Lead Event Coordinator
Assists the Head of Events Team with their duties and creates event ideas for the server and ARTCCs.
VX8: Pilot Division Manager
Manages the Pilot Division, and oversees all pilot operations and applications within the server. Appoints servers for third-party pilot training.
The ATC Division is then divided into three Air Route Traffic Control Centers, similar to VATUSA. These ARTCCs can provide new controllers ATC training, and certify them to control positions. Additionally, ARTCCs have the listed staff positions to assist with all duties and manage the ARTCC:
Air Traffic Manager: Oversees all operations within an ARTCC. Acts as an owner.
Deputy Air Traffic Manager: Assists the ARTCC Air Traffic Manager with all duties, approves new users into the ARTCC, including visitors. Acts as ATM when the existing ATM is absent or LOA.
Training Administrator: Manages all training operations within the ARTCC, reports to VX4.
Facility Engineer: Oversees the facility and creates new things for the ARTCC. This can include a website, Discord server, SOPs, LOAs, etc.
Events Coordinator: Coordinates events with the rest of the ARTCCs and plans ways for controllers to participate in VX.
Any person holding any ARTCC staff position, with the exception of the Events Coordinator, may not transfer ARTCCs prior to stepping down from their position.
The three ARTCCs include:
ZGR (Rockford ARTCC)
ZPH (Perth ARTCC)
ZTK (Tokyo ARTCC)
As a reminder, VX was created for people new and experienced in aviation to have a realistic pilot-ATC roleplay within ROBLOX. We are a server that promotes education and a positive environment for all. You can find more on the VX Code of Conduct.
